Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS

The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) Haiti office opened in 2002. Since then, CDC has focused its efforts on supporting the Government of Haiti in preventing the transmission of HIV/AIDS, treatment and care of those who are already infected with HIV, increasing laboratory capacity and building health care infrastructure.

In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Haiti was designated a focus country, and CDC GAP Haiti became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
