Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS
The CDC Global AIDS
Program (GAP) Cambodia office opened in 2002. CDC collaborates with the Royal
Government of Cambodia, international agencies, and other partners to support
prevention of mother-to-child transmission, blood and injection safety, and
voluntary confidential counseling and testing programs. CDC also strengthens
clinical care, palliative care, and tuberculosis/HIV programs. Building
laboratory and strategic information capacity and informing policy development
are also priorities.
In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC GAP Cambodia became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
