Partnering to Fight HIV/AIDS

The CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) Angola office opened in 2002. Since then, CDC has supported the Angolan Ministry of Health by providing critical support for HIV surveillance, including providing vital technical assistance to create a National HIV/AIDS surveillance system and implement 2004, 2005, and 2007 Antenatal Seroprevalence Surveys which serve to provide essential information for HIV/AIDS programs. In addition, CDC works with Angola to build essential capacity for laboratory, monitoring and evaluation, and information systems.

In 2003, US President George W. Bush announced the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and CDC GAP Angola became a part of this unified US Government effort to turn the tide against the epidemic.
