This project is a Section 1135 Continuing Authorities Project (CAP) which modifies an existing flood control project on the south bank of the Rillito River from Craycroft Road to Swan Road for improving the degraded ecosystem that resulted from the soil cement and bank stabilization.  This environmental restoration project area is located in urban Tucson and the sponsor is Pima County.  The project area includes approximately 55 acres, and includes 4 separate areas to be restored with a riparian/xeroriparian terraced ecosystem using native plant species with an average plant density of 7700 plants per acre.

This project will increase the scarce riparian habitat in this desert climate, which is extremely valueble to wildlife, while providing foraging areas for migratory birds.
