Corps seeks public input for Huntington Beach Bluff Top Park Storm Damage Protection Feasibility Study
LOS ANGELES, CA. - The Los Angeles District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public workshop to gather comments on shoreline protection alternatives for the Huntington Beach Bluff Top Park in Huntington Beach, California.
The meeting on June 6, 2002, will begin at 6 p.m. at the Huntington Beach Central Library, 7111 Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA. The workshop is the first phase of a public involvement and citizen participation program conducted as an integral part of the feasibility study. The study area consists of steeply sloping sea cliffs that rise from 30-40 feet above the Pacific Ocean. A narrow strip of parkland, known as Bluff Top Park, occupies the cliff top between the cliff edge and Pacific Coast Highway. The cliffs consist of poorly consolidated alluvium and marine terrace deposits; they are subject to erosion from both marine and subaerial influences. Public information on the purpose, scope and objectives, and the activities and timing of the study will be presented. The workshop will facilitate the collection and inventory of available data on public concerns and preferences regarding the shoreline and its protection. The Los Angeles District of the Corps of Engineers and the City of Huntington Beach, the feasibility study’s non-federal sponsor, are planning partners in conducting the Huntington Beach Bluff Top Park Feasibility Study.
