Corps to Hold Public Meeting on Silver Strand Shoreline, Imperial Beach
Los Angeles, -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will hold a public meeting Wednesday, July 24, on the plan to reduce the adverse effects of storm-related events on the Silver Strand Shoreline, Imperial Beach. The Corps will provide information on the proposed actions and offer an opportunity for the public to provide comments. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Dempsey Holder Public Safety Center (Main Lifeguard Station) 950 Ocean Lane in Imperial Beach.
Corps representatives will present the plan to construct and maintain a 25 meter wide and 2,165 meter long protective beach along the developed area within Imperial Beach. The initial plan proposes to place approximately 1.6 million cubic meters of clean sand on the shorefront at Imperial Beach. The project will be renourished every 10 years within the project's 50-year lifetime with an additional 764,000 cubic meters of clean sediments. The draft report, an environmental assessment and technical appendices relating to the proposed action are available for public review at the San Diego County Public Library, Imperial Beach Branch, 810 Imperial Beach Boulevard, Imperial Beach and at the Coronado Public Library, 640 Orange Avenue, Coronado. Written comments on the plan must be provided to the Corps no later than August 12.
