Corps to Hold Public Meeting on Silver Strand Shoreline, Imperial Beach Los Angeles, -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will hold a public meeting Wednesday, September 18, to provide information on changes to the Recommended Plan and will describe in detail the proposed final plan. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the City Council Meeting, City Council Chambers, 825 Imperial Beach Boulevard in Imperial Beach. Corps representatives will present the plan to construct and maintain a 12-meter wide and 2,165 meter long protective beach along the developed area within Imperial Beach. The initial plan proposes to place approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of clean sand on the shorefront at Imperial Beach. The project will be renourished every 10 years within the project's 50-year lifetime with an additional 764,000 cubic meters of clean sediments. Benefits of the Recommended Plan include structural, recreational and environmental benefits. Along the South Reach, the project will provide a sandy beach fronting the revetment and will minimize any nuisance flooding to the southernmost end of Seacoast Drive. Along the North Reach, the project will provide protection for the existing coastal structures during coastal storms. For additional information, please contact Jennie Salas at the Los Angeles District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Public Affairs Office at 213-452-3925.
