Army Corps Reps Available at Trabuco Ordnance Clearing
Los Angeles – Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be available at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, to discuss the status of the Trabuco Bikeway Ordnance Removal Project. The project’s purpose is to locate, identify and remove unexploded ordnance along a 22-foot-wide corridor in O’Neill Regional Park. The corridor will later be used for the construction of a bike trail. Corps project and safety experts will be on hand to explain the results of recent tests to locate possible ordnance and other planned actions. Topographic maps showing the locations of possible remnants (dig sheets) will be available for demonstration purposes. The detection equipment EM61 http://www.geonics.com/em61.html will be onsite and available for viewing. Corps representatives expect to complete the project by the end of May. While access to the immediate dig site will be restricted because of security requirements, visitors may view it from a safe distance. Interested media should be at the gated entrance to O’Neill Regional Park at the intersection of Arroyo Vista and Paraiso no later than 9 a.m. For background information or general information about the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, please contact the Los Angeles District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Public Affairs Office at 213-479-8698 or visit our Web site at www.spl.usace.army.mil. |
