ARMY CORPS’ LA DISTRICT CHANGES COMMAND, THOMPSON TO IRAQ, DORNSTAUDER REPORTS
Los Angeles – Command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District will change hands tomorrow during a ceremony to be conducted at Patriotic Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Col. Alex C. Dornstauder will replace Col. Richard C. Thompson as commander of the Corps entity that is responsible for water resources projects in nearly a quarter-million square miles in Arizona, Nevada and California. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Patriotic Hall is located at 1816 S. Figueroa Street. Dornstauder comes to the Los Angeles District from the Corps’ South Pacific Division where he served as Deputy Commander and most recently as Chief of Staff for the Gulf Region Division in Baghdad, Iraq. Thompson will complete three years of service as District Commander. His next duty assignment will be as the Commander of the Central Engineer District of the Gulf Regional Division in Baghdad, Iraq. The Los Angeles District conducts water resources projects that include flood control, nagivational dredging, shoreline protection and restoration and environmental issues. The district also operates and maintains several structures and facilities in conunction with those responsibilities.
