MATILIJA DAM ONE STEP CLOSER TO REMOVAL Los Angeles – Matilija Dam is one step closer to removal with the Los Angeles District and South Pacific Division Engineers’ signing of the final report for the Matilija Dam Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Ventura County Watershed Protection District have completed the report which recommends removal of the dam, restoring a vital fish passage and bringing much needed sand to Ventura County beaches. The report next begins a 30-day coordinated state and agency review process, after which the Chief of Engineers makes his recommendation to the Secretary of the Army on whether to request Congressional authorization. Interested parties may view the report at the Ventura County Clerk’s office and at libraries in Ventura, Ojai and Meiners Oaks. The report is also available on the project’s Website at www.matilijadam.org. For additional information, contact the Corps’ Public Affairs Office at 213-452-3333.
