CORPS SEEKS INPUT FOR SHORELINE PROTECTION
LOS ANGELES—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host two public meetings to solicit input on a proposed project to increase shoreline protection in Encinitas and Solana Beach, Calif. The meetings will take place Tuesday, September 20 in Encinitas and Wednesday, September 21 in Solana Beach. Both meetings are scheduled to take place from 6 to 9 p.m. The Tuesday meeting will be at the Poinsettia Conference Room, Encinitas City Hall, 505 South Vulcan Avenue, Encinitas. The Wednesday meeting will be at the Solana Beach City Council Chambers, City Hall, 635 Highway 101, Solana Beach.
At the meetings, representatives from the Corps of Engineers will present the results of the draft feasibility study and the Corps’ proposed plan for shoreline protection.
In Encinitas, the proposed plan involves bluff toe protection (notch fill) and beach nourishment along a 1.5 mile shoreline from the 700 block of Neptune Avenue to the Self Realization Fellowship Property, north of Swami’s Reef. In Solana Beach, the protection would extend 1.4 miles from just south of Table Tops Reef to the Solana Beach/Del Mar boundary and will involve notch fills and beach nourishment.
The draft feasibility report and the environmental impact study and report are available for public review at the Cardiff Library, 2081 Newcastle Avenue, Cardiff and at the Solana Beach Public Library, 157 Stevens Avenue, Solana Beach. The feasibility report and the executive summary of the environmental reports are available at http://www.spl.usace.army.mil/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=73&Itemid=31 .
Interested parties should ensure that the Corps receives all written statements no later than October 14, 2005 for consideration.
