Corps of Engineers to install pedestrian bridge along Lake Balboa Trail

WHAT: BRIDGE
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Los Angeles District will install the third of four pedestrian bridges on the site of the Bull Creek Ecosystem Restoration project.  A 300-ton crane will hoist the 145-foot steel bridge onto existing concrete footing.

WHEN: Dec. 9
Tuesday, 10-11 a.m.

WHERE: SEPULVEDA FLOOD CONTROL BASIN
Northwest, in the flood control basin, between Balboa Blvd. and Bull Creek, northeast of Park Road.

DETAILS:
Bridges will provide pedestrian and maintenance access; connect to pedestrian trails on both sides of Bull Creek; and serve as overlooks onto habitat areas.  The Bull Creek project will develop about 27.9 acres of aquatic, riparian and native upland habitat to enhance and restore wildlife resources along the Bull Creek channel in the Sepulveda Flood Control Basin.  Restoration will take place 3,000 feet downstream of Bull Creek, from Victory Boulevard to the confluence with the Los Angeles River.  Final project construction is expected in the summer of 2009.

USACE contractor, C.W. Crosser Construction Inc., of Anaheim, Calif. will complete the bridge installation.

Ed Louie, USACE project manager, and Paul Mundell of C.W. Crossing, Inc., will be available for media interviews.

Members of the media are invited to attend the event.  For additional information about the event or project, contact Jennie Ayala in the Public Affairs Office at 213-452-3925.
