Sgt. Maj. Jeff Koontz, district safety officer for the Los Angeles District, talks with Reece Morgan, park maintenance supervisor at the Hansen Dam Golf Course, Oct. 3 about the unexploded ordnance found under the golf course. The area was excavated to run piping for the golf course’s sprinkler system when diggers noticed smoke. The Los Angeles Police Department’s bomb squad properly disposed of the device found. Corps employees investigated and determined there was no danger to the public.

AISES conference

November is American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month. The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is hosting a National Conference in Phoenix, Ariz. Nov. 1-3.  The Los Angeles District is taking this opportunity for the Corps to conduct outreach and recruitment of Native Americans in the Science and Engineering fields.  The EEO Office will sponsor our Special Emphasis Program Manager (SEPM) for the Native American Program in the Los Angeles District. The US Army Corps of Engineers will have a contingent attending and will have a booth and has been a sponsor of the AISES National Conference in the past.
