Army interns are selected competitively and perform a series of training and developmental rotations within and outside the host organization until permanently placed after graduation. As an intern, Gardin will spend the next twelve months at the ERDC, learning and gaining experience in the area of Public Affairs before finishing her internship at the Pentagon. The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It consists of seven laboratories at four geographical sites, with over 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program exceeding $698 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation. Gardin graduated with distinction from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., with a degree in Communication & Culture. While attending college, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key National Honor Society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
