David Uken19 Dec 08 -- Vicksburg, Miss. -- ERDC-CERL contractor David Uken recently received the Milton J. Samuelson career achievement award from the National Industries for the Blind (NIB). The award is named for the late Samuelson, a leader and advocate for upward mobility and placement programs to enable visually impaired and blind persons to lead productive lives. The award was created to recognize the career achievements and accomplishments of employees who work in a NIB-associated agency.

The Chicago Lighthouse, the company for which Uken works, nominated him based on his exceptional performance at CERL as a contractor supervising warehouse and mailroom operations. He was cited for his commitment to improving customer satisfaction by problem solving in a timely manner, along with his dedication and ability to work well with others. Uken was one of 24 nominees across the United States recognized for this award at a conference in Houston, Texas.
