Davis named ERDC technical director

Jack Davis photo 7 Feb 05 -- Vicksburg, MS -- Dr. Jack E. Davis was recently named technical director of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's (ERDC) Flood and Coastal Storm Damage Reduction mission area.

In this position, Davis will serve as the lead technical manager for research in "Flood and Coastal Storm Damage Reduction," a primary business area for the Corps. This position is located in ERDC's Coastal Hydraulics Laboratory. 

Davis has worked in the Corps' research and development community for 25 years. During this time, he has addressed river, reservoir, estuarine, and coastal engineering subjects, including hydraulics, hydrology, sediment transport, structural design, dredging and habitat restoration.&nbps;

Davis holds degrees in civil engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and the University of Texas at Austin. He earned his doctorate in ocean engineering under Dr. Billy Edge from Texas A&M University. Davis is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi. 

The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with more than 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program approaching $700 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation.
