Cudney Joins ERDC's Cold Regions Lab's Seismic and Acoustic Team

Dr. Harley H. Cudney11 Jan. 2006 -- HANOVER, N.H. -- Dr. Harley H. Cudney has joined the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's (ERDC) Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory's (CRREL) Seismic and Acoustics Team in the Civil Infrastructure and Engineering Branch as a research general engineer.

Cudney's past employment includes many years serving as a faculty member in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech and as an engineer with local employers, Concepts NREC, Wilder, Vt., and Applied Research Associates in Royalton, Vt.

His expertise is in dynamics and controls, and he has published more than 100 papers on topics ranging from controlling spacecraft vibrations to locating cracks in gas turbine blades.

CRREL is one of seven laboratories that make up the ERDC. The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with more than 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program approaching $700 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation. CRREL is the only Department of Defense laboratory addressing problems and opportunities unique to the world's cold regions. Located in Hanover, N.H., CRREL also has field offices in Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska.
