ERDC Recognized by Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff Brig. Gen. T.L. Scherling, deputy director for Antiterrorism/Homeland Defense, Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, presented the framed letter of recognition to Dr. James Houston, ERDC director, and Col. James Rowan, ERDC commander, during a visit to the ERDC on Oct. 28. During the visit, Scherling was given the first official copy of the JAT Guide, version 1.1 CD. The JAT Guide is a three-CD set that includes the requirements, planning processes, templates and tools to produce and manage a total antiterrorism program. The guide provides consistent and effective antiterrorism program management across the Department of Defense and allows commanders to prioritize risk and compete for funding on an equal basis. The ERDC is the premier research and development facility for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It consists of seven laboratories at four geographical sites, with over 2,000 employees, $1.2 billion in facilities, and an annual research program exceeding $700 million. It conducts research in both military and civil works mission areas for the Department of Defense and the nation.
