The Southwestern Division's Civil Works program involves planning, design, construction, and operation and maintenance of water resource projects to meet the region's need for water supply, flood damage reduction, navigation, environmental restoration, hydropower, recreation and other water-related needs. Within the region SWD is responsible for some 2.3 million acres of public land and water. That's 29% of the Corps’ total area. We currently have 30 projects under construction, and operate and maintain more than 100 existing ones, with a Civil Works program totaling $433M for this fiscal year. Our Civil Works program involves flood damage reduction, water supply, hydroelectric power generation, navigation, recreation, regulating wetlands and resource protection.
