Media Advisory: Volunteer Leaders to Speak at Showcase in Event by President's Council on Service and Civic Participation

Washington, DC -- The public is invited to join three outstanding District of Columbia volunteer leaders 2:30 to 4 p.m. Monday, April 9, as the President's Council on Service and Participation holds a Volunteer and National Service Showcase at the DC Jewish Community Center. Speakers will discuss the life- changing power of volunteerism, and 20 nonprofits will bring pictorial highlights of local and national service projects.

Panelists include Millicent Williams, Executive Director of Serve DC; Jason King, who was recognized by PBS affiliate WETA-TV as a "Hometown Hero" in honor of his co-founding a successful nonprofit that engages parents in their children's education; and Monchello Mabry, who turned his life around after being incarcerated as a teen and now serves as an active member of Earth Conservation Corps.

Members of the President's Council attending the meeting are Chairwoman Jean Case, actor Stephen Baldwin, broadcast journalist Myrka Dellanos, philanthropic executive Evern Cooper Epps, children's safety advocate Mary Jo Myers, and Wendy Spencer, CEO of Volunteer Florida.
