Chaplain Hanson R. Boney is a native of Northampton County, Virginia. He is a descendant of a long line of military family members dating back to the Civil War. He graduated from Bowie State University in Maryland in 1975, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in History and Politics. His intent was to attend graduate school and eventually become a professor, but that all changed after college. After graduating, he worked as a manager for a subsidiary of the Mobil Corporation, becoming the top sales manager of the month for his subsidiary. He left the Mobil Corporation after 18 months because God had other plans for his life. He was accepted at the Wesley Theological Seminary at the American University in 1976 and graduated three years later with a Master of Divinity degree. While at Wesley, he was called to the Rock Hall-Fairlee Parish in Chestertown, Maryland. He served that parish for four years before coming on Active Duty in the Army in 1980. Chaplain Boney would later complete his Doctor of Ministry Degree.

Chaplain Boney’s assignments include the 11th Air Defense Brigade at Ft. Bliss, 1st Signal Brigade in Korea, 1st Training Brigade at Ft. Jackson and the 6th Support Group in Germany.  His most noteworthy assignments were the 3rd Infantry (The Old Guard) Chaplain at Ft. Myer, FORSCOM Operations, Plans and Mobilization Chaplain, Ft. McPherson  and the 24th Infantry Division at Ft Riley.

His military schooling includes the Chaplain Officer Basic and Advanced Courses,  CAS3, and the  Army Command and General Staff College.  His awards include: The Legion of Merit,  Meritorious Service Medal (6 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal.  Chaplain Boney has the honor of being selected as the Distinguished Service Award recipient for the Military Chaplaincy in 1997. He was also Army Instructor of the Year for the Army Chaplain School, 1993-94.

Chaplain Boney is married  with three children. He is an ordained minister of the Progressive National Baptist Convention. He is a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, The Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society and the Academy of Political Science.
