REMINDER: JPAC calls for public comments on CEC Operational Plan

Deadline extended to 29 November

 
Montreal, 22/11/2006 – The Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) of North America, in fulfilling its responsibility to assure active public participation in the activities of the Commission, as well as to advise the Council of the CEC in its deliberations, requests the North American public to submit comments related to the proposed CEC Operational Plan for 2007–2009 (accessible at: http://www.cec.org/files/PDF/PUBLICATIONS/Draft_OpPlan07-09_29Sep06_EN.pdf ).

The CEC’s Operational Plan describes cooperative action to protect and enhance the North American environment. It is focused on continuing implementation of program priorities established by the CEC Council (the environment ministers or equivalent of Canada, Mexico and the United States). These priorities are:

Information for Decision-making;
Capacity Building;
and Trade and Environment.

Based on its deliberations on the proposed plan, it is anticipated that JPAC will provide an Advice to Council on the CEC Operational Plan for 2007–2009 in the near future.

The deadline to provide written comments on the proposed Operational Plan for 2007–2009 is 29 November. Written comments should be sent to Marcela Orozco at the CEC Secretariat by e-mail at morozco@cec.org.
