NAFTA Environment Commission to sign MOU with leading industry groups

Montreal, 26/01/1996 – The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) — otherwise known as the NAFTA Environmental Commission — will be signing a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Mexican Confederation of Industry Chambers of Mexico (CONCAMIN), the United States Council for International Business (USCIB) and the Canadian Council for International Business (CCIB). This is the first time the CEC has signed an agreement with industry groups from the NAFTA countries. The objective is to promote cooperative environmental management in the NAFTA countries. The MOU advocates sound management practices, information exchange, environmental education, capacity building, standardization processes and technology transfer.

Victor Lichtinger, Executive Director of the CEC, will sign the MOU with Victor Manuel Díaz, President of CONCAMIN, Jonathan Plaut, President of USCIB, and Tim Page, President of CCIB. Maestra Julia Carabias, Minister of the Environment of Mexico, will speak during the signing ceremony.

The press is invited to the ceremony, at Hotel Nikko (on Campos Elíseos in Polanco), on Tuesday January 30, at 1:30 PM.
