NAFTA Environment Commission calls public meetings

 
Montreal, 2/05/1996 – The governments of Canada, Mexico and of the United States are in the process of planning the third regular session of the Council of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC). The Council is the governing body of the Commission. The current members are the Canadian Environment Minister, Mr. Sergio Marchi, the United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Ms. Carol Browner and the Mexican Environment Minister, Ms. Julia Carabias.

In preparation for its public meeting at the time of the regular session, the Council has requested the Joint Public Advisory Committee (JPAC) of the CEC to organize regional preparatory meetings. The objective of the meetings is to Build a North American Community around the following environmental issues:

Reducing Human Health Risks of Environmental Contaminants in North America

Conserving North American Biodiversity

Strengthening Environment and Economy Linkages in North America

Defining Public Participation in the Activities of the CEC

Representatives of organizations or individuals may attend and/or submit statements on the above issues for either of the following public meetings:
