Corps schedules recovery committee open houses
OMAHA – A series of six open houses to discuss the proposed framework for establishing the Missouri River Recovery Implementation Committee is scheduled throughout the basin in September and October. The proposed framework was developed by a federal agency team. Each of the agencies has authorities and responsibilities related to the Missouri River.
The proposed framework was released in late August. It is the starting point for discussions with basin Tribes and stakeholders on the process for forming the committee. Its mission will be to advise the federal agencies on actions to recover the endangered and threatened species in the basin and improve the ecosystem upon which they depend.
“We want to hear ideas and suggestions for establishing this recovery committee from a wide variety of interests throughout the Missouri River basin,” said Rose Hargrave, Recovery Program Manager for the Army Corps of Engineers here. “Our goal has always been to have an open process from the inception of the committee. It is crucial to its success of the committee to allow people to participate in its formation,” she added.
At each event, there will be presentations about the committee and poster stations manned by representatives of various federal agencies who will answer questions and take comments.
