WASHINGTON, June 10, 2005 – Two U.S. servicemembers died in noncombat-related incidents June 8 and 9 in Iraq, according to Multinational Force Iraq officials today.

A Marine assigned to 2nd Force Service Support Group, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), died in a vehicle accident near the town of Hit on June 8.

In the second incident, a Task Force Liberty soldier died of a nonbattle injury on June 9 near Tuz. That death is under investigation. The names of both deceased are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

In Samara today, Task Force Liberty soldiers wounded and detained a terror suspect after he was observed digging in a cemetery and departing with a white grain sack.

Soldiers fired on the suspect as he tried to escape detention. He was treated for his wounds and evacuated to a coalition medical treatment facility, officials said.

The suspect was found carrying two 82 mm mortar rounds, one hand grenade and one fuse in the grain sack.
