Seven Marines Killed in Separate IED Attacks

WASHINGTON, June 11, 2005 – Seven U.S. Marines died in two improvised explosive device attacks June 9 and 10 in Iraq, Multinational Force Iraq reported.

Two Marines assigned to Regimental Combat Team 8, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), were killed June 10 when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle. The incident took place during combat operations near Saqlawiyah, Iraq, in Anbar province.

Five Marines assigned to the division's Regimental Combat Team 2 were killed in action June 9, when their vehicle hit an IED during combat operations near near Haqlaniyah in the western part of Iraq.

The names of the deceased were being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officials reported today that MNFI soldiers from 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, detained four suspected terrorists during separate raids in western Mosul June 10. Suspects were in custody with no coalition injuries reported.
