H.R. 2157Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2003
On May 20, 2003, Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) introduced H.R.
2157, the Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2003. This legislation
would authorize a doubling of Federal funding for uterine fibroid research at
NIH and coordinate the efforts through the Office of Research on Women's Health.
More specifically, this legislation will authorize $10 million in Federal
funding for uterine fibroid research each year for 5 years. The bill would
also fund a public education campaign on the condition. H.R. 2157 was referred
to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. S. 1087, identical legislation,
was introduced on May 20 by Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and was referred to
the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
