1/7/2009 A Record 65,000 Volunteers Expected for 14th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service
  Organizers, sponsors, and community partners joined together today to announce plans for the upcoming 14th Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service. Founder and director Todd Bernstein, who is also president of Global Citizen, announced that a national record 65,000 volunteers are expected to participate in more than 750 community service projects throughout the region on the Monday, January 19 King holiday. That represents an increase of some 5,000 volunteers from last year’s turnout.
   
1/6/2009 Volunteers Serve by Sharing Fire Safety Tips on MLK Day of Service
  As the country prepares to inaugurate its first African American President, volunteers from local American Red Cross chapters and HOPE worldwide will celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by distributing vital fire safety information throughout communities in more than 25 cities during the Martin Luther King Day of Service weekend. Martin Luther King, Jr. recognized the power of service to strengthen communities and achieve common goals. This partnership will help residents prevent home fires, protect their loved ones and strengthen their community.
   
1/6/2009 SAVY Leaders Revitalize Hannah's House
  Join Volunteer San Diego in celebrating their annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Service event. This year, 80 volunteers will join to renovate Hannah's House. Tasks such as painting, decorating, organizing and cleaning will be completed. The event will commence at 9:00 am and will end in a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the house's founder, Ms. Susan Griffin.

  The Sixth Annual Greater Louisville Martin Luther King Jr. Season of Service 2009 sponsored by the Service for Peace organization and RSVP will launch on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Memorial Auditorium from 10:00 am to 11:30 a.m.

  Governor Janet Napolitano is encouraging Arizonans of all ages and abilities to join together to build strong communities through thoughtful volunteer service, beginning with the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on January 19, 2009, and continuing throughout the year.
   
12/12/2008 President-Elect Obama Calls on Americans to Volunteer on King Day Volunteers, Projects Sought for 14th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service
  President-elect Barack Obama is calling on Americans across the nation to volunteer in the January 19 Martin Luther King Day of Service. The upcoming Martin Luther King Day falls on the day before Obama’s historic inauguration. The President-elect will celebrate King Day along with Vice-President Joe Biden and their families by volunteering in a service project in Washington, D.C. and will be calling on all Americans to join him in ongoing active citzenship. “I will ask for your service and your active citizenship when I am president of the United States,” Obama said.
   
12/10/2008 Maine Commission for Community Service Funds Ten Martin Luther King Service Projects
  Martin Luther King, Jr. Day this year will be a "day on, not a day off" for many local students, parents, teachers, and other volunteers statewide. The Maine Commission for Community Service (MCCS) is pleased to announce it will provide ten $350 awards to fund community service projects across the state that honor Dr. King. and his legacy. Time Warner Cable will match the funding of the top two awardees further increasing the projects impact. Funded service projects will take place between January 17th and January 19th 2009. 5/19/2008 Nevada Volunteers Celebrates National AmeriCorps Week
  Nevada Volunteers' celebration of National AmeriCorps Week was held at the Governor's mansion on May 12, 2008 . The National Service Awards to the hard working AmeriCorps members, Vista , Senior Corps and Learn & Serve participants were the highlights of event. First Lady Dawn Gibbons also received an honorary AmeriCorps membership. Everyone in the room repeated the pledge each AmeriCorps member states when they begin their year of service ending with the phrase, "We are AmeriCorps, and we get things done!"
