The Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument is seeking nominations for appointment to the monument advisory committee. Nominations are being sought for both primary and alternate representatives of various interests and organizations to serve on the committee. Members of the committee provide advice to the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service regarding implementation of the national monument management plan.

Advisory committee members are usually appointed to three-year terms by the U.S. Secretary of the Interior with concurrence of the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Due to resignations, however, some terms will be less than three years in order to maintain an established rotation of committee members. Nominations are being accepted at this time to represent the following interests and organizations as primary representatives:  cities of Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Pinyon Community Council, Winter Park Authority, a local developer or builder organization, and a representative with expertise in natural science and research selected from a regional college or university. Also, terms for appointees representing Rancho Mirage, Indian Wells, and a local developer or builder organizations will be less than three years.

Nominations are also being accepted at this time to represent the following interests and organizations as alternates:  cities of Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, Pinyon Community Council, Winter Park Authority, a local developer or builder organization, Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy, Riverside County, California Department of Fish and Game or the California Department of Parks and Recreation, a local conservation organization, and an alternate representative with expertise in natural science and research selected from a regional college or university. Consistent with the abbreviated terms of some primary representatives, terms for certain alternates will also be less than three years to maintain concurrency with terms of the primary representatives. These abbreviated terms will apply to alternate representatives of the cities of Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, La Quinta, the Winter Park Authority, a local developer or builder organization, Coachella Valley Mountains Conservancy, Riverside County, California Department of Fish and Game or the California Department of Parks and Recreation, and a local conservation organization.
