BLM Bishop and Lone Tree Cattle Company Sign Rangeland Monitoring Agreement

The Bureau of Land Management and an Owens Valley rancher have signed an agreement to jointly monitor range conditions, the first for the BLM Bishop Office.

BLM Bishop Field Manager Bill Dunkelberger and Ken Zimmerman of the Lone Tree Cattle Company recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a framework and specific plans to cooperatively monitor the BLM rangelands associated with Lone Tree’s allotments north of Bishop.  A 2004 Memorandum of Understanding between the BLM and the Public Lands Council established the process for developing these types of cooperative monitoring programs.

“We welcome Mr. Zimmerman’s interest in strengthening our partnership to sustain the health and diversity of the public lands.  Cooperative rangeland monitoring is an important tool that increases our capacity to better manage livestock grazing and maintain desired range conditions on public lands,” said Dunkelberger.  The Bishop Field Office is currently developing similar agreements with two other BLM livestock permittees.
