BLM Announces Openings on Northwest California Advisory Council

The U. S. Bureau of Land Management is accepting nominations for membership on the Northwest California Resource Advisory Council, a citizen group that advises on management of public lands and natural resources. There are four vacancies on the 12-member council.
 
There is one seat open in membership category one, which includes holders of federal livestock grazing permits, energy and mineral development interests, the timber industry, transportation and rights of way, off-highway vehicle use and commercial recreation.
 
The council has one opening in category two, which includes representatives of national or regional environmental groups, archaeological and historical organizations, dispersed recreation activities and wild horse and burro interest groups
 
There are two seats open in membership category three, which includes state, county or local elected officials, representatives or employees of state agencies involved in natural resources, teachers involved in natural resources, those who represent tribal interests, and representatives of the public at large. 
 
Nominations and support letters must be sent by Monday, April 14, 2008, to: Bureau of Land Management, 2950 Riverside Dr., Susanville, CA  96130, attention: RAC Nominations. Documents can be sent by email to jfontana@ca.blm.gov.

The RAC works closely with BLM managers in Arcata, Redding and Ukiah, providing guidance on the full range of the BLM’s natural resource conservation responsibilities.  In Northwest California, the BLM manages diverse landscapes including the Sacramento River Bend near Redding, the King Range National Conservation Area on the North Coast and the Cache Creek Natural Area east of Clear Lake. Uses range from wilderness preservation to production of electricity from geothermal sources.
 
The United States secretary of the interior appoints council members to three-year terms.
