News ReleaseFor Release: August 27, 2008 BLM to Repair Road in South Cow Mountain OHV AreaA section of the Mendo-Lake Road in the South Cow Mountain Recreation Area approximately seven miles east of Ukiah will be under repair from Wednesday, Sept. 3, through Thursday, Sept. 18, resulting in traffic delays and road closures. The Bureau of Land Management said the road will be closed for about an hour on Sept. 3 and all day Sept. 11. Visitors to the recreation area can expect construction delays during the entire construction period. There will be no delays or closures on Saturdays and Sundays. Timing of the work may change, so those planning to visit the area should call the BLM Ukiah Field Office, (707) 468-4000, to check on conditions. The work site is on BLM-managed land immediately east of the Westside Staging Area, and the closure will be at the main gate. The Cow Mountain Recreation Area will remain open during the project. The Scotts Creek Road, which leads into the east side of the recreation area from Lakeport, will be open, and motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) can also access the trail system at any time directly from the Westside Staging Area. Crews will be raising the road level and installing new culverts to correct a drainage problem and alleviate muddy conditions. -BLM- Ukiah Field Office 2550 North State St., Ukiah, CA 95482
