Picture This: A Courtyard Duo
July 18, 2006

With our opening festivities complete we're turning our attentions upward —to the Robert and Arlene Kogod Courtyard being designed by renowned British architect Norman Foster and scheduled for completion by the fall of next year.

The top image is a model of the Donald W. Reynolds Center that shows how Foster's new glass canopy will look. The model is presently on display as part of our exhibition Temple of Invention. The bottom image is a view of the courtyard with construction scaffolding as seen from within the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The scaffolding is a work of art in itself but also serves a more utilitarian purpose: holding the canopy in place until it can be fastened to columns within the courtyard. Top photograph by Michael Edson; bottom photograph by Carlos Parada.

Gee, the scaffolding looks a lot like the Pompidou Center in Paris...:-)

That scaffolding is amazing. It's like a matrix of pipes and tubes. That would make for a cool flickr group: scaffolding pics.
