Agreement between Puerto Rico and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

On March 24, 2006 HHS Surgeon General Richard Carmona and Governor Anibal Acevedo-Vila signed a Planning Resolution detailing HHS' and Puerto Rico's shared and independent responsibilities for pandemic planning.


Federal Help for Puerto Rico Planning

Puerto Rico received $1,443,014 in phase one funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to use for pandemic planning activities. Puerto Rico received additional funds of $3,058,415 from the revised phase two of Health and Human Services’ local and state allocations. A supplemental $1,042,959 was awarded to help strengthen Puerto Rico's capacity to respond to a pandemic influenza outbreak. These grants are based on a formula adjusted for population.

State Activities

Puerto Rico, HHS and other federal agencies held a pandemic planning summit on March 24, 2006, with public health and emergency management and response leaders within the state.
