Speaker Biography: Liz Carpenter, who was Lady Bird Johnson's press secretary and chief of staff during the Johnson administration, is the prolific author of articles and books, including the best-sellers "Ruffles and Flourishes," about her days in the White House. Her most recent publication is "Start with a Laugh: An Insider's Guide to Roasts, Toasts, Eulogies, and Other Speeches." A distinguished lectureship has been named after her at the University of Texas, her alma mater, and she is a member of the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. When not on the lecture circuit, she lives at her home, Grass Roots, in the hills overlookingAustin, Texas.
