Example Storm Result from Cape Cod

This figure gives an example of SWASH measurements of the shoreline response to a storm. The horizontal scale is distance along the coast, as shown on the Cape Cod study area map. The vertical scale is shoreline change, or the horizontal shift in the position of the mean high water contour's intersection with the beach foreshore. Negative shoreline change indicates a landward shift in the mean high water contour, which is inferred to result from beach erosion. The shoreline eroded in response to increasing wave height (08May98-13May98) and accreted in response to decreasing wave height (13May98-20May98).
