The Department of the Navy is in the initial stages of preparing an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to study potential environmental effects associated with a range of reasonable alternatives (including ‘no action’ alternative) for the proposed acquisition of lands and establishment of special-use airspace bordering the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, Calif.
As part of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, the Marine Corps will host three scoping meetings in Southern California. Meetings will be in open house format allowing interested parties to view information boards and handouts, speak with project representatives and submit written and oral comments on issues and alternatives for consideration in the Draft EIS (by Jan. 31, 2009).
