Status of Open Recommendations

GAO's annual report on the status of open recommendations resulting from audits, evaluations, and other review work in federal departments and agencies has been captured in a database. To encourage prompt, responsive actions to GAO's recommendations, we systematically follow up on them and annually report to Congress on their status.

The information we collect as part of this follow up effort -- along with our Performance and Accountability Series report issued in 2003 -- should help Congressional and agency leaders prepare for appropriations and oversight activities. They may also stimulate further actions to achieve the desired improvements in government operations.

This database can be searched by Congressional requester, by subject matter, or in various other ways. In addition to providing the current status of each open recommendation, this database contains the name and telephone number of the GAO manager to contact for further information or assistance.

Questions not related to a specific product or recommendation should be referred to GAO's Quality and Continuous Improvement office at (202) 512-6100 or via e-mail at qci@gao.gov.
