Candidate Visits

The Admissions Office conducts orientation visits for prospective West Point candidates (high school sophomores or older) beginning at 9:00 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from early September through late April. Members of the Corps of Cadets volunteer to escort each candidate individually, offering the candidate an opportunity to visit a class, view the barracks, eat lunch in the Cadet Mess Hall, and attend an admissions briefing. Competitive applicants should take full advantage of this opportunity to see West Point first hand. It will help you make a better decision if you are offered admission. A group orientation is provided simultaneously for parents. Two weeks notice is required to schedule an orientation visit. During the summer and holiday periods, no orientation visits are conducted, but the Admissions Office is open. Write to the Admissions Office, Candidate Orientation Visits, USMA, 606 Thayer Road, West Point, NY 10996-1797, or call (845) 938-5760.

The West Point Visitors Information Center USMA website, opens new window is also open to the public seven days a week from 9:00 to 4:45 p.m. Guided bus tours of the Academy leave the Visitors Center about every 20 minutes. The tour includes stops at many of the historic sites on the main grounds. Visit their website for rates and times, or call the Visitors Information Center at (845) 938-2638, ext. 7079.
