In February 2006, Congress passed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 amending Section 452 of the Social Security Act to authorize comparisons of information concerning individuals owing past-due child support with information maintained by insurers (or their agents) concerning insurance claims, settlements, awards, and payments.

The Federal Employees Health Benefits Children's Equity Act of 2000 was enacted October 30, 2000 as P.L. 106-394. The new sub-section enables the Federal Government to enroll an employee and his or her family in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program when a State court, or administrative authority, orders the employee to provide health coverage for a child of the employee but fails to provide the coverage.

The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws approved the revised Uniform Parentage Act. This Act will then be presented to the American Bar Association House of Delegates for approval.
