Risk Assessment
The Environmental Laboratory supports the Corps, Army, and nation through top quality research on the exposure, effects, and potential risks associated with anthropogenic stress to ecological receptors in the environment. Terrestrial and aquatic systems are targeted to characterize impacts of contaminant and non-contaminant impact. Research works to define the processes that control exposures to biota to chemicals in water, sediment, soils and air and innovative methods of managing such exposure. Specific mechanisms of toxicity are explored across the levels of biological organization in order to better understand and predict potential impacts and prevent impact when possible. EL's decision support systems expertise is available for transfer to risk assessment, communication, and risk management. EL has developed and continues to develop verified models, broad and complete parameter databases, and decision support tools for use in quantitative risk assessment. |
