Registry of U.S. Government Publication Digitization Projects
Descriptive Information- Project and Contents Description
- Images scanned from USGS topographic quadrangles from the states of NH, VT, ME, MA, RI, CT and NY dating from 1890s until 1950s. There are approximately 1100 maps in the present collection with nearly complete coverage of the 15-minute series at a scale of 1:63,500 as well as some 30-minute 1:125,000 and early 7.5-minute (1:31, 680) series. Future plans include filling minor gaps in these series and scanning the 7.5-minute (1:24,000) series up through the penultimate edition. Currently the collection consists of "quarter quads", each map having been scanned in four parts in and served in JPEG format with a few pilot project MrSID images. We are in the process of re-scanning the New Hampshire maps as entire quadrangles at higher resolution. These maps will be georeferenced and eventually served in compressed format, probably as JPEG2000 images. Clipped images will be available from the NH state geospatial data repository.
