Hydropower
The Corps Of Engineers produces hydroelectric power at plants located at two lock and dams on the Alabama River; Robert F. Henry Lock and Dam, and Millers Ferry Lock and Dam. Millers Ferry Powerhouse came on line in 1970 and produces 75,000 kw. Jones Bluff Powerhouse at Robert F. Henry Lock and Dam began producing power five years later in 1975. This installation has a production of 68,000 kw. The majority of the power produced is sold to local power companies which distribute it to the surrounding communities.
