Former DoDEA Administrator to Receive NCA's John Vaughn Award

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA - Dr. Janet Rope, who recently retired as the Department of Defense Education Activity's (DoDEA's) Accountability Administrator, is one of eleven educators who will receive the 2008 John Vaughn Excellence in Education Award from the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI).

The award will be presented at the Annual Conference of the Commission on March 17 in Chicago. The award honors the memory of Dr. John W. Vaughn who was NCA CASI's Executive Director prior to his death in 1986. The award recognizes people who motivate students to high levels of achievement; involve the community in substantive aspects of schooling; expand programs and services to meet the varying needs of students or demonstrate a pioneering spirit that enables all schools and districts to move forward. Individuals receiving the award come from a 19-state region, including the Navajo Nation and DoDEA.

Rope retired from DoDEA in January after 25 years of service to DoDEA. For more information about the John Vaughn Award, visit the NCA CASI website at www.ncacasi.org.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages the education programs for Department of Defense (DoD) dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA consists of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) located overseas, and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) located in the United States and its territories and possessions. DoDEA provides education to eligible DoD military and civilian dependents from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
