Marine Reservist Injured in Support of OEF/OIF

When Marine Reservists are called to active duty for 31 days or more, in support of a contingency operation, they receive the same medical care as active component members. All Marines are required to undergo a physical examination immediately before de-activation. Marine Reservists on activation orders who are not medically fit to be released from active duty will remain on active duty for treatment until the end of their orders. At that time, if the issue is still unresolved, their command will submit a request for medical extension package to the Director, Physical Evaluations at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED).

Please read more about the necessary information to be included in the medical extension package to BUMED, as well as more information on this process, in the Med Hold Info and BUMED Ext Request Info documents in the Reference area to the right.
