ODS Welcomes Comments for Next Strategic Plan: 2010 - 2014 Dear Colleagues:
The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) invites you to take part in the planning process as we consider revisions to our current strategic plan.
Our strategic plan for 2004-2009 has served us well. ODS is committed to promoting quality science in dietary supplement research to both inform public health policy and to help consumers make knowledgeable decisions about their own health care. The five strategic goals in the current strategic plan have provided the focus for these efforts.
ODS is re-examining its Strategic Plan and desires public comment on the progress of its programs and on future needs and opportunities for program activities. A background paper, A Report to the Public, has been prepared that summarizes progress in four key areas of ODS activities. ODS solicits comments on and suggestions for its future activities. This background paper and related information are available on this Web site (see sidebar). Guidance is being requested from all interested parties on these important issues:
- Are the current strategic goals adequate?
- Is ODS meeting its stakeholders' needs?
- In the future, should some of ODS's current programs or activities be given higher (or lower) priority?
- How can ODS more effectively provide useful information to the ODS user community, including consumers, investigators, practitioners, industry, media, policy makers, government, and other interested parties?

Participate in Webinars. ODS will be holding four public meetings by webinar weekly from January 29 through February 19, 2009, and you are welcome to participate in one or more of these. Follow the webinar link for more information about how to participate.
ODS does not work alone but in partnership with other NIH Institutes and Centers and indeed with partners throughout the Federal government. In fact, working together in collaboration with others is an important part of our operation. We look forward to receiving your comments on the issues, initiatives and priorities of ODS.
