H.R. 4062The Pandemic Preparedness and Response Act
On October 17, 2005, Representative Nita Lowey (D-NY) introduced H.R. 4062, the Pandemic Preparedness and Response Act. Research provisions would require the Director, NIH, in collaboration with the Director, CDC, and other relevant agencies, to expand and intensify human and animal influenza research, including vaccine development and manufacture, effectiveness of inducing heterosubtypic immunity, antigen-sparing studies, antivirals development, drug safety, alternative routes of delivery, modes of transmission, and other areas determined by the Director, NIH. H.R. 4062 has 31 cosponsors and was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The bill is the companion to S. 1821, which was introduced by Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) on October 5.
