H.R.1290The Hepatitis C Epidemic Control Prevention Act
On March 14, 2005, Representative Heather Wilson (R-NM) introduced H.R. 1290, the Hepatitis C Epidemic Control Prevention Act. H.R. 1290 would require the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish, promote, and support a comprehensive prevention, research, and medical management referral program for hepatitis C virus infection. The bill also would require the Director of NIH to establish a Liver Disease Research Advisory Board, which would be charged with developing a Liver Disease Research Plan. H.R. 1290 was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. A companion measure, S. 521, was introduced in the Senate by Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX) on March 3.
