The Memphis District maintains a commercial navigation channel through dredging activities, dikes, and revetment along 355 miles of the Mississippi River, from Cairo, Illinois (river mile 954) to the mouth of the White River at Rosedale, Mississippi (river mile 599). We also maintain nine harbors and a navigable channel along 245 miles of the White River in Arkansas. The Memphis District is responsible for the design and construction of the above mentioned items. An average of 15.9 million tons of river borne commerce pass through the harbors while over 250 million tons of goods pass through the Memphis District's boundaries. In the United States, the Memphis port ranks 38th in water borne tonnage.
